A friend of mine shared photos for luxurious European cruise “Silver Wind” docked on Shuwaikh port, the ship came all the way from Italy and carries over 600 tourists from Europe and America who will be taken on a tour to see Kuwait attractions, cool. I always wonder why we don’t yet have a touristic port and cruise in Kuwait? This can be a great attraction for Kuwait, tourists can reach Kuwait through the sea, also we can go to Dubai and other cities by the sea and not just air.

Why would people want to come to Kuwait in a cruise ship?? As if there is something to see here…
You’ll be surprised! Many westerners that I know find Kuwait different than the other GCC Countries. By that I mean the embedded mixed culture of the nation, maritime/desert culture, add to that the recreational/heritage spots found all over the country. Also, the NCCL stated today that they are working on including 5 historic sites, in Failaka, in the UNESCO’s World Heritage Center’s List. I hope you are aware of the significance of this piece of information. May I add the importance of the recent discoveries of the prehistoric temples, churches, graveyards, artifacts, & other archaeological sites in Failaka, Subiyah, & the site of the Cultural Village? You do realize that since the 1950s, archaeological experts from Poland, Denmark, & recently, in 2010, from the UK have and still find sites that date back to the Bronze, Hellenistic, & Islamic eras!!! Hope this can answer your question. If not, feel free to reply so that I can offer more, because we have just started.
. People don’t travel just to see malls & theme parks! ‘History tourist’ is the keyword here.
1. “maritime/desert culture, add to that the recreational/heritage spots found all over the country.” LIKE WHAT? MARITIME CULTURE? WHAT IS THAT, AND DONT SAY SCUBA DIVING. WE HAVE POLUTED WATERS.
2. “Failaka historical sites” ??
2. “Failaka historical sites” ??? I’LL BELIVE IT IF IT EVER GETS FINISHED.
Please, don’t tell me that you are confusing the historical (archaeological) sites with the Failaka touristic project? Did you? You said something about when it’s finished. How can the government finish or tamper with something that was built thousands of centuries ago? Well, check these links to dispel the confusion. Reading these links will not only inform you, but also show you why Europeans visit Kuwait. Not all tourists want to go to malls and clubs.

My friend I think you are confused. Right now there is nothing to see on any of the islands, as the sites are not in any sort of condition to be presented properly to the public.
It doesn’t need to be finished. There are some HUGE leftovers of past civilizations.
I was very fortunate to see it.
Indeed.
Jasim, you said that it’s not finished and properly presented, and the reason is because neither the European nor the Kuwaiti teams finished with the studies. It takes a long time to wrap up the final work of archaeological expeditions, especially for such historic remains in Failaka. Several Gulf, Western & Asian expeditions are still coming to Kuwait because they keep discovering something new. You cannot barricade these places or open them to the public (at the final stage) without the approval of all parties. Do you know that recently Kuwait has signed an agreement with UK universities and Slovenian archaeological teams? That is because apparently, this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of archaeological discoveries. I suggest that you read the invaluable information in those links I posted in my previous comment so that they answer all your questions. At the end of the day, the general public has no idea how big this is to Kuwait and the Gulf region. Add to that, the NCCL is working on the inclusion of Failaka remains in the World Heritage List. That’s a major plus. We can go all day and bicker and throw negative & pessimistic comments & replies all day or we can inform the general public about the significance of these findings. I know that we drifted away from the purpose of this post (Silverwind), Sorry Taz! But in the end, all of this is critically related.
That sounds all good on the outside. But as I said before why establish tourism when these things are not finished yet? I DONT CARE ABOUT THE REASON ITS NOT FINISHED. THE REASON IS PRETTY OBVIOUS, THEY HAD 4O YEARS TO GET THESE THINGS DONE AND STILL THERE ARE NO RESULTS DUE TO LAZYNESS AND CORRUPTION. I’ll tell you something about Kuwaitis, they always think and do things ahead of them selves. For example they build a big mall, yet the roads and traffic going there are crapy. So instead of fixing traffic before building a mall, they just skip the first step. This is the case for 99% of all things here.

That’s really neat. I wish ships left from Kuwait to Europe and the US.
I dream to see this happening!
