My cheat days are back! Those who read my blog since the beginning will know that I used to have a cheat day (usually Fridays) where I’m allowed to eat anything, but later all my my days turned into cheat days but I’m back to my old regime. I invited my family for the newly opened Thai cuisine restaurant, Ubon.

I googled the name Ubon, and it came as a city in south-east region of Thailand, nice. I arrived there at lunch time, sadly I couldn’t find a parking spot and instead of parking in front of Ubon restaurant (which is yellow/black curb) I parked at the nearby parking building. Inside Ubon, it was simply and cozily designed, luckily I found a good table.

I picked the menu and saw dish names that I’m totally clueless about, you see I never visited Thailand or experienced Thai food before but thanks to the supervisor who helped us select the top selling dishes.

Appetizers

We picked Ubon Jumbo Prawns (tasty), Green Papayas (Salad with peanuts, ginger, and grape leaf), and Tom Yum Goong soup (didn’t favor it).

Main Course

We had their Pepper Beef Garlic (liked it), Green Curry Chicken (tasty) along with Jasmine steamed rice (oil-free and light). For drinks we had regular sodas.

Our check came KD18.200 , so did I like Ubon? Its my first time ever to try pure Thai food but I liked the dishes that I tried (Except the soup), the level of service was great and ambient was pleasant.

My only remark is the limited number of tables, and the parking since the parking beside Ubon are not allowed to use and police patrols will have no problem issuing tickets. I asked if they got delivery, they said shortly.

Address: Fahad Al Salem Street – beside Muthana complex, Kuwait city.

Looks like the food trend in Kuwait nowadays is leaning toward Asian and Mexican with the opening of several new restaurants, I’m not minding at all because I think we have a plenty of burger outlets and pizza places.

Ubon: This is a new Kuwaiti based concept Thai restaurant located in Kuwait city, particularly at Fahad Al salim street. I’ve never had Thai food before but I’m willing to take the plunge, not yet sure what the name means but wait for my review shortly.

En Mexico: Another small Kuwaiti based concept restaurant that offers Mexican food experience, the little restaurant is located in Jabriya area just beside Champions gym. I spoke with the owner who said that they are currently in the soft opening, will try them soon and see how it tuns out.

Meli Melo: Another addition to Japanese restaurants in Kuwait, their new branch has opened at The Village at Abu Al Hassniyah area. I think they have another small branch in Salmiyah, they offer sushi’s and Maki’s, I didn’t try it yet but I’m planning to.

Azteca: Recently opened Mexican restaurant at The Village in Abu Al Hassaniya, I heard the owner is a Mexican lady who lives in Kuwait, and the chef is also Mexican. As for the reviews they were mixed.
