Even with all sort of franchise and Kuwaiti-concept restaurants and cuisines popping everyday in Kuwait, I still enjoy eating shawerma every now and then. Let’s admit it, it’s tasty, it’s satisfying, and can save you money when compared say to high-end restaurants. I tried to sum up the best Shawerma places that I tried in Kuwait with regards to taste, quality… etc. though I have to say that price of shawerma has increased a lot in recent years.

al Farooj: It’s a popular in U.A.E, and they opened their first branch in Kuwait in Salmiyah opposite to GÉANT. They serve beef, chicken, and Mexican shawarma, and they are all tasty, but remark is about the price (750 fils), that’s high wish it was cheaper.

Moqarmesha: It’s ran by Kuwaiti chef Ahmad Al Bader and located in Sha’ab seaside and Mahboula. They serve beef and chicken shawarma for 650 fils, and the taste is great and Lebanese bread is crispy and thin, the shawarma is small so you may need to eat two or three.

Address: Sha’ab seaside, 1st right turn as you enter from Fahaheel express way.

Abo Khodour: It’s from Lebanon and I still remember when it was first opened in Kuwait in Hawally, they later opened in Salmiya and Mangaf. Their shawarma is big with good price. I like their bee shawarma.

Address: Hawally, opposite to Al Bayan Bilingual School, near the round about on Beirut street.

Kurdo: They was a big buzz about their shawarma when they first opened, it does taste delicious especially the chicken. Though sometimes their shawarma is too oily and it’s relatively pricey (650 fils).

Their branches are located in Salem Mubarak street in Salmiya, Marina Mall, and 360 Mall.

Naif Chicken: A very classic but still offers good chicken shawarma for a good price (250 fils).

I was having an early breakfast at the Grand Avenue ad spotted IHOP Restaurant opening soon at The Mall district, I knew AlShaya was going to open it in Kuwait in a year or two but I didn’t expect it would open this soon. They are almost done with decorations so I’m guessing it’s opening in a few weeks.

Now they have officially brought whole America to Kuwait, with the opening of The Cheesecake Factory, Red Lobster, Texas Roadhouse, soon iHop, and now Olive Garden I really feel like I’m in the states. Olive Garden was my all time favorite restaurant back in the states, for those who don’t know it it’s an American casual dining restaurant chain specializing in Italian-American cuisine.

It was opened today at the Grand Avenue right above Potbelly next to Red Lobster.

Thanks [Sheikaha]

I had a sneak peek last night for a new Kuwaiti-based restaurant/cafe called The Gathering Bistro opening soon at Salhiya, as I arrived I was warmly welcomed from the owners; two young friendly Kuwaitis that explained to me their concept and idea. My first impression is that the interior design looked unique, it somehow looked like a street in London or say Paris with bazaar and a cafe.

The seating area was well organized and lighting and decorations added more coziness to the place. Though what I liked is that sitting inside made me feel like I’m in the open air because there are no walls but folding (or should I say sliding?) doors that can be fully opened.

They said they serve fusion cuisine, so no particular specialty but a variety of dishes and plates. They are opening next Sunday, so I’ll make sure to visit them sometime to review their food and prices.

Address: Salhiya – Mohammad Thunyan ST, Noor Building, next to Home Berry.

Back in December 2011 I said that Armani Cafe is going to open in Kuwait [link], but I wasn’t really where they are opening, first I suspected it will be at Al Hamra Tower but when I visited AlHamra Luxury Center I didn’t see it among the cafe’s and restaurants opening there. Good news that now I know the exact location, did you guess it yet? Yes The Prestige District in the Avenues Phase III.

They said it will be big and very luxuriously and lavishly designed, they will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, the cuisine comprises traditional Italian dishes in keeping with Armani Caffés in Milan, London, Paris, and Boston. Personally I like their Dolci Chocolate, now I need to investigate when is the opening date.
