I received gruesome photos and video for knife fight or should I call it massacre at the Avenues last night, I was hesitant to share them because they were just so gruesome but many were sending me emails asking me to post about it so people can learn and be vigilant.

Apparently, there was repeated stabbing involved and some say the fight started over a girl but most sources say about parking spot yet nothing confirmed, don’t know what to say really but since when such violent fights started happening in Kuwait!

Note: We are really sorry if we bothered anyone by sharing the video.

Update: The killer was busted, the police says he’s 22 year old (stateless citizen), the cause was over a parking space and they say he got the knife that he used from a market inside the Avenues, most probably Carrefour, and currently they are after the accomplices. See Ministry of Interior PR official statement [link]

Thanks [Aziz]

What I observed here in Kuwait Malls that they don’t have enough security guards and no “Frisking” nor metal detectors on the mall entrances to confiscate deadly weapons. Avenues is a huge mall with huge crowd almost 60% visitors are Families. They should think the future that it might be next target for “Bombing” as well.

OK! El Toro and TAZ! If there’s going to be a post-apocalypses thing in Kuwait like the stuff you see in MAD MAX, WE NEED TO TEAM UP!!!

Fighting over a parking spot is getting common in Kuwait.

And The Avenues, must had also increased their security along with expansion, it became one of the city in Kuwait without any governance…

    • Tazmania says:

Totally agree, plus the Avenues attracts the young teens(14-20) and wide variety of social classes and types, tight security measures must be taken especially during week ends/ peak hours.

I can’t understand the bitching that is going on!! People fighting over a parking lot??? Wainkoooom yal amn???!!! Wainkoom laish sakteeen??? Avenues isn’t even giving a shit!! I can’t even walk around without people these days being racist against anything, “ethaboot banat” (ta5rfin), fighting!! This should be solved…People please this is Kuwait, our home, since when we have shit like this going around…and I know some people who will be reading this comment will laugh and says “shooof hathaa”…

Shabab please we shouldn’t be quiet..we have to solve this once and for all…a massacre and someone dying in a fucking mall and everyone is watching like its a show without until helping at the end..is fucking ridiculous!! I decide we show run an active campaign…show people that we care!!

Taz & ElToro I hope you could run a campaign for our countries sake, for our kids…WE SHOULD SHOW THEM THAT THIS IS WRONG..even in schools this is happening!! Please lets us make our voice heard!

    • Tazmania says:

Thanks for your great feedback Salem, running such campaign can be really beneficial to our young society…we just need ideas for the campaign and we fully support such initiatives.

What a sorry waste of life! I wouldn’t want to be in the shoes of the Avenues management right now. Wonder if they can trade notes with management @ Dubai mall and the Mall of the Emirates on crowd control and security issues.
The learnings from this whole unfortunate incident are:

    1) Car pool as much as possible with your friends and family. Strength lies in numbers.

    2) Use the taxi service more often- will save you the hassles of struggling to find a parking spot. If there is greater demand from the gentry in Kuwait the taxi service can only improve: anyone fancy BMW taxis, London Cab type service.

    3) Avoid visiting the Avenues at weekends and public holidays for a smooth enjoyable shopping experience.

    4) Pre-empt potential trouble spots in Kuwait for preventive actions. I feel the entertainment zone in 360 is a ticking time bomb where masses of youth with a lot of free flying testosterone come together each weekend and on public holidays so that having armed bouncers with stun guns there will make it feel more secure for the rest of us, leisure seekers.

    5) Things have come to such a pass let there be bouncers armed with stun guns all over the place in Kuwait- at least women, families and expats will feel a lot more secure and safe than now. Avenues, 360 and Marina would most definitely benefit from it.

    6) Every now and again, give your patronage to the other they-also-ran retail developments: Salhia, Fanar, Marina, Souk Sharq, Kout etc.

What we see happening in Kuwait these days is symptomatic of a society where there is enormous demand for luxury consumer goods and fattening food with almost zero interest and demand for books and the art of reading. The Avenues is a classic case in point: barring the sorry case of That-el-Salasil trying to pass itself for a half decent bookstore in a galaxy of retail and food outlets, there’s zilch for intellectual arousal, and that is true with the national landscape, as well.

    Be safe stay safe.
