The story behind the “House of Mirrors”

While visiting a friend in Qadisia area I passed by the famous house with many glass arts, known as House of Mirrors. I always wondered about the story behind this house so I asked a relative who knows the dwellers.

I’m sure many of you are familiar with this house, many tourists come to see it. I was told the house is owned by Kuwaiti artist, Khalifa Al Qattan, and his Italian spouse Lady Lidia.

The story as I understood that their little daughter, Jalila, had broken a mirror years ago, Mrs. Lidia kept the broken pieces and made a glass art from the shreds, and when her husband, Mr. Khalifa (Who also was a well-known painter) returned from his business trip and saw Lidia’s art, he liked it.

Mr. Khalifa then started to bring artistic pieces when ever he travels, along with his wife Lidia art works, they made many glass arts.
They then suffered from a heavy termites infestation that they almost stopped their arts and thought of selling the house, but with their determination and eagerness they found a solution for the termites and continued their artistic works.

Lady Lidia said that the mirrors may have been the reason for saving their house from termites because glowing the glasses to the walls may have forced termites to eventually forfeit the house.

The story made me feel really excited and I was told that Lady Lidia welcomes anyone who wishes to visit the house.

    والله استفتائج وايد يعطينا فكرة عن راي الناس في هالموضوع,, وانا الحين محتار شلون اراضي الناس من ناحية اللغة لأنه مثل ما تفضلتي 50% بس يبي عربي وهي نسبة كبيرة ولازم نحرض على رضاها,, لكن اعترف في بعض المواضيع تكون بالنسبه لي بالانكليزي اسهل الكتابه فيها.
    
    انا ان شاءالله راح احاول ازيد المواضيع باللغة العربية وان شاءالله احاول اللي اقدر عليها ارضي جميع الاطراف والله المستعان. مشكوره على افادتي يالغاليه

      أنا بعد وايد إستغربت من إنه الأغلبية تبي عربي
      
      بس تدري شي، شغلة وايد حلوه إنه في جماعة تؤيد لغتنا القومية
      
      المشكلة: منو فينا قوي وإلا مرتاح بالكتابة بالعربي؟
      
      أنا شخصيا أقدر أكتب بالإنجليزي بثواني قليلة، من دون ما أضطر أتأكد من كلامي
      
      بس الصراحة، الكتابة بالعربي تآخذ وايد وايد وايد وقت، و بالغالب التعليق يضيع مع هذا البطأ
      
      مشكلة العربي إنه، وياي أنا شخصيا، دايما مرتبط بالبوستات الدينية وإلا الوطنية
      
      ودي أقدر أعلق على الأشياء الثانية بالعربي، مثل ما أعلق عليها بالإنجليزي
