I was right when I said weight loss surgeries have become a trend “Habba” in Kuwait because Kuwait has just scored a new Guinness World Record for leeve gastrectomy or in other words stomach reduction surgery. They say over 6,000 surgeries are made every year which is the highest in the world! Well, I expected that in my post back in March 2012 [link] because almost everyone I know is considering or thinking to get a surgery done, I think part of the problem is that many local and international celebrities are announcing that such surgeries have helped them lose so much weight and look sexy.
What pisses me off though are those quacks (AKA unethical surgeons) out there who never turn anyone back even if the patient doesn’t need any surgeries and a diet control plan plus some exercise can totally solve the problem, but sadly they don’t care because such surgery costs around KD3,000, do simple calculation and you will get 10-18 Million Dinar roughly spent on stomach reduction surgeries per year in Kuwait, that’s indeed one huge tempting market. Please people listen and understand, I know some people desperately need such surgeries but smart exercise and diet do can wonders, so beware.

Note: Not all surgeons are unethical, there are many who practice medicine righteous way.

Fasting on time as Muslims are commanded to, and to be moderate in eating, and helping ourselves and others around us, taking long walks with friends and families.. The problem isn’t limited to weight gain, it goes beyond that. People need to take their families and friends on healthy trips rather than food seminars!
3000kd is the total deduct the hospital fees and the other costs + Kuwait is the 2nd country with obese people so it makes sense to have the record as the government will do the surgery for free you only pay for the tools
doing the surgery will benefit the people i don’t see why all the hate as it will help people with diabetes and high blood pressure
its something good not bad
These surgeries have VERY serious side effects, including risks of infection and death. Most people end up losing the weight because they get sick, and as a result look thin and unhealthy. They are not a joke, and definitely not a good thing and should be used as a very last resort to use weight.
1000+
A friend of mine done it. She was just little over weight and tried so many other ways to lose weight but In the end she got tired of diets and went for the surgery.
I am completely against stomach reduction. The problem is not in size of the stomach its in the brain and life style. Reducing the stomach will not stop you from craving unhealthy food.
Well said, I’m not saying this surgery shouldn’t be considered at all because as SOS said above it can be used as last resort for those who really need it, I know many who are over weight by 10-15 KGs and have undergone this invasive surgery even though they could lose weight by merely controlling their eating habits and couple that with a regular exercise.
the problem is eating habbits
One side we allow number of fast food chain and other side break world record on weight loss surgeries.
Government should pass strict laws against these surgeries so that a person can fear of getting obese.
Why is it so tough to build a healthy neighborhood garden or have small clubs such as laughing club in Kuwait.
Even if they make clubs, ladies will dress elegant with D&G tracksuit making whole thing a kitty party of laughing clubs with lots of food every 5 min…
