Last night I invited myself to a new Japanese restaurant named, Koji, that was just opened in Kuwait City. I had a little difficulty finding it but I figured the location when told me it’s in the same place of old Wasabi restaurant in Qibla. As I arrived at the entrance, I had this first impression that it’s not going to look good inside because the name was not clearly displayed but as I entered and saw the interior decorations and design I changed my mind instantly. It was almost empty and this helped me to shoot pictures, it was just opened yesterday. I met the manager and asked some questions, they said Koji is from the same people behind Wasabi, they decided to open their own Japanese concept restaurant. My other question was regarding name “Koji”; they said it’s a Japanese name which I think translates as “tradition”, or “origin”. Inside it was medium sized and neatly decorated, comfy seats and relaxing lighting and background Japanese music was cool. The staff was friendly and responsive, they handed me two menus; classic and iPad. The menu contained most of classic Japanese plates found in other restaurants (salads, maki, sushi, teppanyaki).Starters

Kani Furai; Breaded crabsticks, tasted little spicy and when dipped in their sweet sauce taste is great.

Temaki: Cone shaped and stuffed with rice, tasted good (see picture below) Main course

Tasty Crab; Rolls with crabstick , avocado, cucumber and tanuki (tasty with soy sauce).

Chicken Tori; Similar to beef teppanyaki (good but wish it was less oily).

Shrimp Sushi: Rice with shrimp (Slightly dry).

Prices were in the KD1.5 – 5 range, the general ambient felt good and they had a small private room. Service level was great and orders came fast but I can’t judge for sure because there were a few people. My remarks; they didn’t segregate smoking section from non-smokers, K-Net is not yet working so you need cash, and exact location need some help to find.

Address: Kuwait City -Mashoura Towers, behind HSPC bank

On behalf of AJ; From what we understood that they were working with Wasabi but they left early this year and they decided to open a new restaurant that has almost similar concept to Wasabi yet they wanted it to be even better, so yes they are now a competitor :)

i liked how your reviews have pictures, location, etc.
however, I would like to read a lot more about your honest opinion about the food :)
Was it good? did you like certain dishes? not like others? how it compared to other japanese here?

They are not the same of Wasabi, the owner and company are different, its just some of the staff worked in Wasabi before, Koji is different style, must try it.
