I have been experiencing with my Samsung Galaxy Note II camera for a while to see if I can depend on it in upcoming events and restaurant reviews. So I went to have lunch at the newly opened Lorenzo Cafe in Salmiya (since it’s my cheat day anyway) and use the Samsung Note II camera to shoot pictures to see if it’s better than iPhone 4s and Samsung Galaxy SIII.
As you know the main camera is 8MP with resolution up to 3264 x 2448 pixels and front camera is 1.9MP, there were set of filters and settings to improve the quality of images, also there was the panorama option. I don’t expect miracles from 8MP, but mainly I wanted to check the low light quality, picture resolution, HDR option, flash, ISO, exposure, filters.
Normal pictures looked great and high resolution, even though I wish the contrast was slightly higher by default, the anti-shake feature was my biggest concern though I’m little disappointed as the pictures turn blurry if my hands shake while snapping a shot. I noticed camera was constantly seeking a lock to focus automatically – but you can change the focus point with your finger.
The flash was strong, though I didn’t like to use it because the colors become somehow pale. There were 12 picture effects such as negative, cold vintage, solarize, green point, cartoonify, washed out, sepia, black & white… etc. My biggest disappointment was shutter speed, it was hard to capture good snapshot of moving objects. In darker conditions the camera was fine but I prefer the iPhone 4S, the HDR option helped little with the shaded areas. Generally I liked the camera and decided to use it for day reviews and events.
Note: I slightly modified the contrast of some of the pictures.
