As promised, I went over last night to the Chinese and Japanese restaurant Wok n Roll that was opened at the Avenues nearby Chili’s in same place of Nando’s for Suhoor with friends. Inside it was quiet and spacious, decorations had Asian theme with dim lighting, and music in background was good.

Menu had a nice variety of both Japanese and Chinese dishes, I wanted to try their Maki’s and salads. The prices were in KD2-4 for most of the Maki’s which is slightly cheaper than some other Japanese restaurants in Kuwait.

Starters

They served a small complimentary chicken appetizer, tasted good.

Tani Ma Salad: Shrimp, lettuce, edamame, avocado, and sweet sauce (Crispy and tasty).

Kani Furai: Japanese fried crab stick mixed with sweet sauce (Tasted good but I expected even better taste).

Main Dish

Ebi Tani Maki: Shrimp, crab, lettuce spicy sauce. It was light and tasted good with their Teriyaki sauce

Dune Maki: Fried shrimp, crab, and spicy sauce. I don’t know why they call it dune but it tasted good.

For drinks, I had green tea. My check was KD14.750 which is typical for Japanese food in Kuwait. My first impression about Wok n Roll was positive but I’m not sure about their Chinese food.

I have tried this restaurant 4 nights ago in Jabriya behind Royal Hayat hospital. We have ordered the same salad, mushroom soup, salmon “grilled”, maki with salamon and another with shrimp, chicken rolls and chicken naggets. Those cost 27 KD only. It was a great experience for my first time in Japanese Chinese restaurant. I’m gonna repeat it again and again

I wonder how many more Japanese and Chinese restaurants will open in Kuwait… seems to be too many already :)

Have you guys noticed that restaurants overcharge for their food in Kuwait? Heck, Fat Burger in Kuwait costs more than the one in Dubai. Same with Starbucks. Remember a few years ago when a Kuwaiti placed the same order in 2 Starbucks? One in NY & one in Kuwait. Guess what? The one in Kuwait costs more than the one in NY (including tax). Prices continue to inflate because we will continue to go to these restaurants. Sometimes, restaurants here (including the Kuwaiti owned) cost twice as much as they cost in the States or in the UK. I’m not being stingy, I just hate it when I get blatantly ripped off. That’s how the rich becomes richer! Sorry for the tirade, but it’s insulting to see that happen.

Sadly Bu Jwais this is true for many restaurants in Kuwait, I still can’t figure why many restaurants charge so high, the supply (restaurants) is far greater than demand, there are more than 5,000 (&number is increasing) restaurants in Kuwait and by doing a simple calculation we will find that there’s a restaurant for every 200 citizens (more or less), but yet prices remain to increase sometimes in total unreasonable way.

I have compared Chili’s prices in Kuwait with Dubai and L.A and we had the highest prices, the same order in Kuwait costs me over 3 KD more when compared to Dubai, see here:

Though as you said, since the demand it still high and no one is objecting or even caring then no wonder why prices keep inflating.
