I was craving desert truffles for quite sometime now, we call it in Arabic Kamah and in Kuwait فقع or Fagga and it’s similar to mushroom yet more tasty and expensive where one kilo could cost as high as KD20. Last time I enjoyed eating truffles was around this time in 2011 but a friend of mine called me in the afternoon to tell me that truffles market has started early this year, maybe because of the heavy rain season, so I directly headed to the market which is located nearby Friday Market and Nurseries on the 4th Ring Road.
I arrived around 5:00 pm and sadly most if the sellers were gone, I personally prefer the Saudi truffles that are called Zobeedy (زبيدي) or the Ekhlas (اخلاص) but after asking several shops they said only the Algerian is currently available and the Saudi will arrive in about a couple of weeks. So I got one KG of the Algerian truffles for KD4.5 which is still a great price. I’m now preparing the truffles for tomorrow’s lunch but I’m thinking what is the best way to have it cooked, usually its served with beef or chicken Machboos (See below) but I’m more than open for any suggestions.
