I read on Kuwait Times that officials from the ministry has shutdown the art gallery expo organized by popular Kuwaiti artist Shurooq Amin on the first day of launching, the officials justified the ban by stating that the displayed galleries were indecent.
“Amin said officials focused on two of her 16 works – a painting of a woman in a mini-dress sitting on a man’s lap entitled “My Mistress and Family” and a picture showing three men playing cards and drinking “grape juice” from a bottle which suggested contraband alcohol.”
What’s more interesting is how she reacted with the ban by stating that she’s now more determined than ever and that she would keep on producing art that challenges local perceptions.

There is a time and place for every thing, she definitely didn’t respect the place. We might look relaxed but that doesn’t deny the fact that we are a conservative society. Hope she can get that in her skull. If you wanna walk the walk and talk the talk try to live in the western world instead of copying and promotion their crumbling ideology that has no limits or boundaries. Their are many ways to express your so called art in a way that respectsour religion and culture. And FYI many of my British friends want to live and raise their kids in Kuwait just for the fact that we are conservative.

LOL raise kids here? You’re right so they learn to chase, cause accidents? Every society has its limitations and this isn’t 1950s anymore. She’s an artist and its her right to publish what she is gifted with.. we can look at a picture and say anything who knows the story behind it.. IF you people and ministry feel so offended you should start educating people here to respect, stop chasing females like dogs without bones, stop causing accidents, stop the weekend parties at salmiya flats where music blasts and disturbs other but due to ‘Waasta’ people act like slaves and other greatness we witness here and gluck in fixing it because it could take minimum of 100 years to see a change.

How about censoring the censors board in Kuwait, eh??
Shurooq should thank the censors for generating a palpable interest in the body of her work both inside and outside of Kuwait, through this whole childish episode.
