A team from the new ISP in Kuwait WIMD came over to my house to fix their service so I could try it and give back my feedback.
As mentioned in my previous post WIMD established a wireless network covering all Kuwait to transfer the data, unlike traditional DSL that uses landlines. Some people questioned if they have a license to operate as ISP but from what I understood from them is that they have frequencies 5.4 to 5.8 GHz & 2.4 to 2.8 GHz reserved for them from Ministry of Comm. to use.
They drive their Internet bandwidth from KEMS, QualityNet, GulfNet, and soon Fasttelco which according to them will help keep the service up at all times. Their team went up to the roof and started to locate the nearest Base Station, I live in Qadisiya so they said Hawally Central had the strongest signal, they then fixed the antenna (Signal receiver) and made some testing and wiring from the antenna to the wireless Cisco router in my room.
I must say their team was fully equipped and experienced, they provided me with 20 Mbps which is their highest bandwidth speed.
After I had the wireless router ready, I set the connection and did speed and ping tests, I used their servers along with other servers for the testing; download gave 16-18 Mbps and upload gave 14-16 Mbps while ping test gave 12 ms on average.
The first thing came to my mind was HD YouTube videos and huge Torrent files, I was excited how 1080p videos ran smoothly but I noticed on torrent that am getting about 600 Kbps download speed whereas I should get around 2.2 Mbps, they explained that this is because there are numerous signal interference in Hawally due to some people using their frequencies illegally, they also have this issue in Subhan area.
They have no download limit and provide 24/7 trouble-shooting. My experience was positive but I wish if they resolve the signal interference issue to get the full potential.

In the UK, it would cost you £20 a month for 45Mbps, which means roughly 120 K.D. a year. Internet prices in Kuwait are sky-high.
Agree Kuwait Internet prices are still v.high compared to Europe & U.S.

19ms for a kuwaiti server isn’t very good, which it probably is. Can you do a ping and speedtest to a european and american server? Thanks

but your actual download is what ? 16-18 Mbp ,, That’s for starter ..
So you are paying now for which speed exactly ?
16 mbps (79KD per month ) or the 20 mbps (102KD per month )
I think both are costly for a personal user but its reasonable for like internet cafe
of someone who will spent this amount in order to invest and get more money !
As for a personal normal use I would prefer no more than the 10 mbps (44KD per month )

BTW may i ask when u download a torrent wht is the speed per second ???
Supposedly 2 Mbps on average but I was getting 650 Kbps roughly and company explained that this is exceptional case because they have frequency interference issue ocurring in Hawally and that htey are working on resolving this issue, please contact them for more info.
