Do you prefer going to cinema or having your own home cinema? Personally I still prefer watching latest movies in cinema, but many of my friends disagree with me and they stopped going to cinema years ago, their explanation is that Kuwait cinema ruins their movies experiences with the strict censorship, also some of the customers scream and talk in the movie which is also annoying, and finally they say they can’t always find good seats.

Yesterday myself and El Toro were at X-Cite in the Avenues, I saw they started building Home Cinema theaters, so I asked their staff if they could explain the main features. Their new customized Home Cinema resembles Cinescape VIP theater, the seats can be automatically adjusted, HD projector and 150-inch screen, the most important element (speakers) were 9.2 from British brand B&W which are hidden in the acoustic-designed walls, I mean having 9 speakers surrounding me is new, last time I checked it was DTS 6.1 and THX 7.1 , I don’t know where they will go with this?

The sound quality and surround was great, though I wish if maximum volume was louder. Another thing that got me interested is the walls design, they are acoustic which helps with the sound transmition and quality. The seats can be electrically adjusted, and lights can be dimmed, but what I really liked is that the whole theater can be controlled with an iPad, simply cool. Did I mention that the theater is Blu-Ray and PS3 ready?

The next logical thing to ask about was price of course, they said they have three packages, the bronze (KD5,000), silver (KD7,500), and gold (KD10,000); please see the video to know the differences. KD10,000 , that’s the cost of a brand new car but for those who got the money ready to burn I don’t think money would be an issue.

9.2? That’s new!! the features are good but 10,000kd is way out of my budget.

Does the price include (seats & wall insulations ) ?

I personally stopped watching movie theaters here because it actually does ruin the experience in many ways. I would only go to the movies IF and that’s like a BIG IF, my best friends wanted to go and watch an awesome movie (ie The Dark Knight) while at the same time hanging out. Other than that I won’t bother going.

I went ahead a built a cinema at our basement, 3 years ago and I can’t be be happier with my investment. Cost a little more than 10,000 but was so worth it, includes wall insulation/reverberation treatments equipment, back-projector cabinet and 12 seater electrical reclining sofas in 3 rows over staggered floor

Think of it this way .. If I had gone every weekend of the 3 years to the movies for 3kd (how much is it now! I don’t even know its been a while obviously) .. For 12 members .. It would have cost us 5000, so thats half my investment saved. The quality I have is even better than the VIP cinema so assuming the same for 3 years it would have cost us 8,600 to go to cinescape every weekend .. that’s more than two thirds of our investment in just 3 years

In conclusion, its so worth it

Makes sense, may I ask what kind of surround speakers system you used for your home cinema?

Went with a local company for the equipment, sound system from Meridian. very talented people and highly recommended. They are called ETC Kuwait, they are in Shuwaikh, they don’t have a website but they do have a Facebook page. You can look them up there.

Can I turn any room in my house into a movie room? or are there some things that have to be there before they do they work?

  6. Khalid says:

I have a good experience with such a systems, for now there are no movie with a 9.2 experience as my little knowledge. For the B&W I have installed (as I’m a dealer and installer) in many places and it sounds a far high level of experiences, but not the best ;) .

Building codes effecting insulation levels wouldn’t really start to take affect until early 1980′s. If your household was built previous to 1984, there is a reasonably good chance that an attic has small attic insulation. Builders in the 1940′s would not insulate much of anything, builders in the particular 1960′s filled the place between the ceiling rafters with concerning 4 inches of insulation. Builders in the actual 1990′s installed 8 in . (R-25 in order to R-30) regarding loose-fill fiberglass insulation and by the year 2000, insulation levels received reached 12 inches (R-38). ,
