I was waiting at the traffic light when this new campaign by Ministry of Justice took my attention, the campaign is actually to encourage youths to get married by stating that marriage has a higher priority than travelling, projects, car, friends, study, and a job.

My debate is how marriage is supposed to be more important that a studying and getting a job? Basically marriage is near impossible without them; not having a college degree means not getting a proper job which means low income that can lead to financial problems which in turn can end up a marriage. Also almost all families consider having a proper college degree and a good job essential criteria for marriage unless they’re referring to marriage only from biological point of view. I’m also wondering about the reason they launched this campaign, is marriage rates dropping in Kuwait? or possible divorce rates are increasing?

I’m seeing billboards on Kuwait streets with title Color a Life displaying children with some local celebrities, I didn’t know what is it all about but after asking some friends from the media I was told that its a new campaign to support adopting orphans.

I’m loving the idea these kids really need our support, thanks for those whi’s behind this great campaign. Visit the website here

If you thought that increasing marriage loan to 6,000 KD has completely solved the problem, I say think hard and long again. While having my morning coffee reading the paper I came across this newly published study by the Ministry of Awqaf stating that the majority of girls are now asking for 10,000 KD dowry (or should I call it marriage custom), their reasoning is that marriage preparation costs a lot, the jewelry, the wedding dress, make-up, accessories.. etc.

The study covered about 600 girls, personally some of the weird things I heard is that just make up alone would costs as high as 500 KD or even more! But again I think girls should be more considerate with their demands, after all no one wants to start his/her marriage with debts.

It seems that social networks websites are causing serious marriage problems in Kuwait, I read on Al Anba paper that a Man accused his ex-wife of cheating with 2800 men because he saw that she has 2000 friends on facebook and 800 twitter followers, that’s heavy!

Though it worth highlighting that facebook friends and twitter followers are not necessarily lovers, but I think marriage couples should be open to each other and try to reach a mutual agreement before any of them uses such social websites to avoid serious problems, what do you think?
