choowyvillage11Choowy Goowy cafe & restaurant will soon open 3rd branch at The Village in Abu Hassaniya in the same location of Q Cafe that was closed down, sadly I liked their risotto big time. I’m a fan of Choowy Goowy cookies, they recently conducted food tasting sessions for new items on their menu when they opened at The Avenues so maybe I’ll pass by to try them out.

20130205_174614 (Large)I received sneak peek photos for a new restaurant opening soon in Kuwait City named The Dark Room with such an interesting concept, they say the idea of this restaurant was originated from people with blindness, inside it will be pitch black with no lights what so ever. The visitor has to leave their mobile phones or any other light sources in a locker room and the waiter will lead them through a long dark corridor to their dining table but this time there are no dimmed lighting or candles but like I said absolute darkness.

The owners say they purchased special night vision goggles like those used by American army for the waiters, I know this all sound way too weird but the owners believe that such a concept may help people realize the suffering blind people experience and that they need more support and recognition from the government and society. I’m not yet sure what the restaurant will serve but I think fancy food presentation will not be important here. I’ll have a visit to The Dark Room when it opens at Burj Jassim so I could tell you more about its intriguing concept.

Every time I’m in Dubai I enjoy dining at Ribs and Rumps in Dubai Mall because I’m in deep love with their tasty ribs, it’s an Australian steakhouse. I knew they were planning to open in Kuwait yet neither knew when nor where, but now I’ve got all the answers. They are actually going to open their first branch in Menus food court in Mahboula probably in February or March, I overheard they are operated by The Meat Co. though I’m not sure but at least it’s not a burger joint.

See I was right when I told you there’s at least one burger joint opening/closing in Kuwait every week. Anyway, Johnny Jockets was and still one of my favorite burger places and it was just opened at KIPCO Tower Mall in Sharq right opposite to Upper Crust Pizzeria. I think this is their smallest branch in Kuwait, I’m having love affair with their double Wagyu burger thesedays.

20130119_173443 (Large)It’s been quite sometime since I did any food reviews because I’m cutting on my calories just like Tazmania did but heck food is too tempting since Kuwait is abundant with restaurants everywhere. I was at Bida’a the other day and spotted this newly opened Lavida Cafe opposie to Wasabi, it looked kinda cute with the violet lights so I got little curious to see what they serve. The staff said they opened a few days ago and that this cafe is a franchise from Jeddah, I was also wondering about the name Lavida so I grabbed my phone and searched Google, turned out la Vida is Spanish term meaning life.

20130119_173550 (Large)Inside it was small with a few tables scattered around and decorations were simple with wall mounted TV. They say they mainly serve breakfast but they also serve lunch and dinner, some of the stuff I saw included pasta, salads, sandwiches, mini burgers, pancakes, waffles…etc. My starters consisted of the chicken ceasar salad (tasted good), Mozzarella sticks (tasty with the dipping cheese sauce), as for main dish I picked their Chicken Platter which is a grilled chicken fillet served with chicken mushroom sauce and vegetables (light but vegetables were little salty). For dessert, I had their pancakes which are filled with pancake syrup and chocolate sauce and strawberries (tasty).

The service level was good but staff were slightly unfamiliar with the menu but I suppose this will improve with more experience. I was generally satisfied with Lavida Cafe but my remark is that their prices are on the high side since my order total was KD13.350 including a diet soda, that’s relatively high and hopefully prices will be improved.

Note: I’ve only experienced what I talked about above so I can’t judge the other things.

20130124_185528 (Large)I came to a conclusion that there’s at least one burger joint opening/closing every week in Kuwait. Shake Shack new location in Al Fanar Mall in Salmiya will open tomorrow at lunch time. This one looks better on the inside than the one at the Avenues and more spacious and built on two levels. There were indoor and small outdoor seating area, the upper floor had large TVs. At least now we don’t have to drive all the way to Avenues.

20130123_175333 (Large)I spotted the Lebanese-concept Japanese restaurant Le Sushi Bar opened at Al Hamra Luxury Center today. I kept hearing from my friends in Lebanon about this restaurant but never tried it before and they say this is their first ever franchise outside Lebanon. I approached the manager and asked some questions about the restaurant and if it brings anything special to the very competitive Japanese cuisine market in Kuwait, he said Le Sushi Bar was the first Japanese restaurant to open in Beirut, Lebanon and is considered to be one of the finest in the country and that they serve a variety of sushi’s and maki’s that can’t be found else where.

The restaurant interior design was simple and consists of a wooden bar with tables distributed around with total capacity around 170 seats, there was also private cabin for special gatherings and occasions. I may give them a try sometime and share my opinion with you. Have any of you tried it?

IMG_4491 (Medium)Recall the little small Kuwaiti-based burger joint located nearby Solo Pizza Napulttana in Kuwait City so called Hashtag Burgers? I received an email from them saying that they are saddened to announce to their fans that they are closing down due to the commitments of studying abroad. Sadly I liked their burgers, that place was so tiny yet so cozy. I wish them all the best and wish they make a come back in future.
