I was longing for Fatayer (فطاير) and I read about this new gluten-free bakery named Firin from Bazaar so I thought I’d try it for breakfast, I keep hearing about health benefits for gluten-free foods but wasn’t sure what it is, from what I read on Wikipedia that some people are sensitive to gluten (Celiac disease), plus they say removing gluten helps losing weight and increase energy levels and improves general health.

The bakery was small with a furnace, they handed me the menu; they had fatayer, cupcakes, breads, pizzas, muffins, and cookies. They only have take-away and home delivery orders, I ordered margarita and meat fatayer.

I favored their margarita, they don’t offer beverages. My check was KD8 and yes its high, I highlighted this to the owner; she explained that all their ingredients are brought from the outside and are high quality, she said they will look into improving their prices and services.

Sometime back I posted about restaurant courts being the new trend in Kuwait, well in addition to the ones that I mentioned there’s another one so-called Miral I spotted today nearby Hilton Mangaf resort, its owned by Al Nawadi Holding I think. In that street alone we will have ten or more food courts, guess it will beat the restaurants street in Salmiyah.

Remember my post about Hungry Bunny that was opened in Jahra last year? They will soon open a second branch at Al Egaila  in Al Nokhetha complex and they still say they’re the original Hungry Bunny. After the disappearance back in 1997, Hungry Bunny is still one of the most loved fast food restaurants in Kuwait.

I tried the branch at Al Jahra and posted about it before, see here

I was having my dinner at the food court at the Avenues last night and I spotted this new Asian Diner so called Pei Wei opening soon. I never heard of it before but I googled it and I found that it’s owned by PF Chang’s and will serve Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean food. Personally I’m not familiar with Korean and Vietnamese food, is it any good?

I heard about this new little restaurant from our friend Blushberry that has fish shawerma so I decided to take the plunge and try it. I can imagine the “noway look” on your faces when I said “Fish”, but guess what? It wasn’t bad, actually surprisingly it tasted good.

The restaurant Fish Palace is located nearby Souk Salmiyah. They also have fish burger, fish nuggets, fish fingers, fish Kebbah, fish lazagna, even fish pasta.

So you see its all about fish, I liked their spicy fish shawarma even though I was so hesitated to try it, fish burger was good too

They said their fish comes from Kuwait and other countries. My only remark is that their shawarma price is 1 KD, that’s high and hopefully they reduce it.

Address: Salmiyah, block5, street5.

I noticed this little pizza place, Pizzera Romana, today at Salem Mubarak street in Salmiyah, it was already dinner time so I’d thought I’d try it. As I opened the door, the supervisor greeted me and told me that I’m their first customer since they just opened today, what a coincidence.

The place was little and cozily decorated, I could sense Rome in every corner. The owner explained that Pizzera Romana is an Italian franchise and this is the first branch to open in the middle east, la vera pizza italiana means the real Italian pizza.

The chef said that they serve over 20 kind of pizzas, customers can also customize their own pizzas and toppings.

They had oven that they brought from Italy to use it for the pizzas. I asked about their signature pizzas, they served me with mushroom pizza, pepperoni, and Re Di Roma (Mozzarella, Salmon, Tomatoes, and Caviar). I liked the mushroom and peperroni but I didn’t favor the Re Di Roma since I’m not into Salmon.

Their pizzas were thin and come in one standard size, they also served me with an appetizer called Suppli (Rice balls with meat and cheese); tasty with the sweet chili sauce.

Food aside, the staff were responsive and service was quick. I think those who are into pizza will like it, we have numerous American pizza places in Kuwait but this is kinda different.

My total check was 7.750 KD which is reasonable. Currently, they’re softly opened from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Address: Salem Mubarak Street – Nearby Olympia Mall.

If there’s something that’s really interesting about Kuwait then it would the restaurants and food experience, many of my foreign friends said that Kuwait is the place to be if you want to enjoy delicious food. Recently we have observed that the new trend in Kuwait is the food courts, several years ago we only had Bida’a strip, later Spoons came and now many more are popping up.

Levels Food Destination (See above): This is is located in Mangaf area right beside the sea and takes the shape of a long strip, there will be several restaurants opening.

The Cube: Located at Salem Mubarak street in Salmiyah and owned by AL Fawares Holding, I think it will take the shape of a cube with several restaurants and will open by end of 2013 I heard.

Arabella: Situated next to Radisson SAS hotel, its a European-styled project with restaurants including Altissimo, Long Horn Steak House, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Pizzeria Margherita, MBCO, Semsom, Deer&Dear among others.

Typhoon: Located by Fahaheel express way at Abu Hassaniya next to The Village with area of 5,000 square meter and expected to open on October, I’m not yet sure what are the restaurants.

This isn’t everything because I spotted another two restaurant courts in Mangaf and Abu Hulaifa by the corniche road and seems they will open soon but I’m not sure about the names.

Looks like the food trend in Kuwait nowadays is leaning toward Asian and Mexican with the opening of several new restaurants, I’m not minding at all because I think we have a plenty of burger outlets and pizza places.

Ubon: This is a new Kuwaiti based concept Thai restaurant located in Kuwait city, particularly at Fahad Al salim street. I’ve never had Thai food before but I’m willing to take the plunge, not yet sure what the name means but wait for my review shortly.

En Mexico: Another small Kuwaiti based concept restaurant that offers Mexican food experience, the little restaurant is located in Jabriya area just beside Champions gym. I spoke with the owner who said that they are currently in the soft opening, will try them soon and see how it tuns out.

Meli Melo: Another addition to Japanese restaurants in Kuwait, their new branch has opened at The Village at Abu Al Hassniyah area. I think they have another small branch in Salmiyah, they offer sushi’s and Maki’s, I didn’t try it yet but I’m planning to.

Azteca: Recently opened Mexican restaurant at The Village in Abu Al Hassaniya, I heard the owner is a Mexican lady who lives in Kuwait, and the chef is also Mexican. As for the reviews they were mixed.

When I ever think luxury Salhiya is one of the first spots that pops on my mind, yesterday I was doing some shopping and saw that there are a number of new stores and restaurants that were recently opened.

First was the new Burberry branch located at ground floor, there’re other branches at 360 Mall and the Avenues.

If you like macaroons just like me then you’ll be glad to know that restaurant Chocolate and Macaroon has opened another vintage branch at M2.

Morad Behbehani is one of the stores specialized in luxury watches, it was opened a few months ago. There’s also another new branch opened at the Avenues Phase II.

I also saw that right outside the complex they’re opening the local frozen yogurt concept Home Berry, see my precious post about it here

There was this new store to open that according to them will sell a variety of luxury brands at M1.

Ever tried camel burger? camel pastry? ok camel milk ice cream? no? I can imagine the look on your face when you read camel burger but actually there’s this one restaurant in Dubai that serves it, and I couldn’t miss the chance to at least taste it!

The restaurant is called The Local House and is located at Bur Dubai, specifically at Bastakiya, everything was about camels, the menu, the burgers, the pastries and even the ice cream.

I ordered their signature camel burger, along with camel pastries and ice cream. Guess what? The burger tasted good but meat was dry (forget about tenderness & fatness of cow beef), the meat was also slightly hard to chew but along with the sauce it tasted good, at least for me.

Also pastries were made with camel meat.

Finally ice cream with camel milk, the place looked traditional. I’m going now to buy camel meat and make my own burger, so who’s in?

I was shopping earlier today at the Avenues and saw that Lebanese restaurant Zahr El Laymoun has opened, I’m in love with Lebanese cuisine but I heard mixed reviews about it, there’s another branch at 360 Mall.
