I’m still getting many queries and doubts regarding the mobile number transfer between operators Zain, Viva & Wataniya Telecom (or should I say ooredoo?), first let me say that it’s 90% confirmed that mobile number transfer will start by mid of April (15th), so that’s only 2 weeks from today. Now I’ll briefly explain how the process will go and what are the rules and regulations so bear with me:
Client wishing to transfer his/her number must pay his phone bills if they exceed KD30.
Client should apply an application for the operator that he/she wishes to transfer to.
The transfer shall complete within 24hrs.
The operator cannot reject client’s right to transfer his/her number to any competing operator.
Client maintain his/her right to choose between pre-paid/post-paid plan in the new operator.
The charge for transfer is KD3 and the new operator can waive it (as in marketing purposes).
Client can apply for a transfer every 30 days.
Client will be given a new sim card with the same number when the transfer is completed.
Example: Say a client wants to transfer his/her mobile number from operator X to operator Y, then the client must go to the head office of operator Y and apply for a number transfer application making sure to bring along his/her valid civil ID card so that the transfer can complete within 24hrs. However, the client must make sure that his/her phone bill is settled (if it exceeds KD30) to operator X before he/she goes to operator Y, but if the bill is less than KD30 then the outstanding amount will be transferred to operator Y so that he/she can pay them later. The client must also be aware that remaining balance (as in minutes, messages, megabytes MB’s) in his/her old operator X will not be transferred/refunded by operator Y.
Let me also emphasize that the old operator must not charge the client for anything, also old operator cannot withhold the client even if his/her contract isn’t yet expired or completed, also it shouldn’t use client’s private information for any purposes what so ever. The only confusing part in my opinion is the tariff system, as I understood that once the client has completed transferring the number to another operator then he/she will be notified when making a call to another network. So any questions? Anyone’s excited?

While having my early morning coffee and leafing through AlRai paper I read an article about the increasing Internet and online blackmail/extort people are reporting in Kuwait these days. Apparently, many of the those evil extorters are abusing online social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Keek… etc. to intimidate victims, like by spreading out their personal/private photos or information in order to get what they want like a ransom or even worse. The problem that in many cases the extorters turn out that they were having an affair with the victims (ex-partner, girlfriend/boyfriend… etc).
Many of the victims do submit to the blackmail lest of scandal. Good news is that Ministry of Interior MOI has just launched a dedicated number to report such cases so that they can handle them confidentially, if you know anyone undergoing such electronic crimes then she/he can give the the number below a call and hopefully police will help. Be vigilant!
I received this video for a cargo giant ship that almost hit Shuwaikh beach early in the morning, I’m not exactly sure what happened but they say this could have turned into a disastrous incident. Anyone has any idea about this incident?
I read on the paper that starting next week Ministry of Health will launch animal rescue service dedicated to the rescue of injured animals and pets in Kuwait to take them to veterinary hospital, they will also launch a hotline so that people can report any animal accidents. I’m so glad with this initiative, I often see poor cats and dogs being ran over on Kuwait streets and are left to suffer and die in pain. I recall several weeks ago I saw an injured horse that was also hit by a car on Belajat street but there was nothing that they could do.
I’ll make sure to update this post with the animal ambulance hotline number when they launch it next Saturday. Read more [link]
I just received this video for a fight at Mubarak hospital today in Jabriya, I don’t know what’s the cause of the fight but I heard over 20 people involved! What’s with the increasing violence in Kuwait?
I was checking Kuwait news online this early morning and read that Wataniya Telecom will be changing it’s brand name to ooredoo which I don’t yet know what it stands for? My first wild guess is that it means “I want” which is the Arabic translation of ooredoo but I think there’s more to it than just a new brand name. Seemingly Qtel (the well-known Qatari telecom that owns lion’s share of Wataniya Telecom) that was behind this new change, they say they will be adopting this brand name during the course of 2013 and 2014. Does anyone have an idea what’s the story behind ooreedoo?
Have you guys watched the 85th Oscar Academy Awards last night? I was so sleepy but I kept my eyes open till the show started and managed to watch half of it before I fall into a deep sleep, it was so fun but sadly I missed to see the winners and their reactions. I always get surprised with the winners but this time around I kind of expected the results. My favorite movie this year, Life of Pi, has won several awards such as best Director, best Cinematography, and best Visual Effects (well deserved) but the top movie award has gone to Argo (which I haven’t seen) starring Ben Affleck. It’s weird that I always miss to watch the films that win the Oscar awards!
The other surprise that the Italian-origin actor Daniel Day-Lewis has won the best actor award for the 3rd time for his role in Lincoln which I also missed, I think this is the first time ever an actor wins Oscar for three times, I remember he won the Oscar in Gangs of New York in year 2002, it was such an awesome movie. Also I think it was fair that Best Supporting Actor award has gone to cute Anne Hathaway (which is her first Oscar award) because she had to lose weight and cut her hair to fit the given role. As for the Best Actress award it has gone to Jennifer Lawrence for the film Silver Linings Playbook, yes I missed it as well.
As I expected James Bond Skyfall won nothing because it sucked if you ask me except for the intro song Skyfall that was performed amazingly by Adele Adkins and Paul Epworth. By the way, did you see how Michelle Obama suddenly came in? It was kinda bizarre but indeed a smart diplomatic move. Academy awards aside, which actress do you think looked stunning on the red carpet this year?
A friend sent me this video over WhatsApp in the morning, he says it’s for a hole that suddenly formed on King Fahad highway near Wafra and Al Nuwaiseeb down south and it’s about 4-5 meters in diameter! It looks dangerous to drivers from video above. I think it was either caused by really bad compaction works from the road works contractor or probably there’s another excavation works nearby which may have the underneath soil to collapse, what do you think? I hope no one was hurt and please do share with all your friends and relatives heading to south of Kuwait.
