fcbarcelona_poster_2010Remember my post about Brazil National Football team coming to Kuwait for the official opening of Jaber Stadium? I just received semi-confirmed news that Kuwait Football Association has got the initial approval from FC Barcelona to come to Kuwait for a friendly football match against Kuwait National Football team at Jaber International Stadium. The football association claims that the game with Brazil National Football team was cancelled because they wanted the full team and not just the secondary players to participate in the game just like what happened when FC Barcelona came to Kuwait back in 2009 if I remember correctly.

According to Football Association the negotiations will continue once the on-going UEFA Champions League is finished (by the way, the 4-0 against Bayern Munich was Ouch). I’ll make sure to provide you with more details once I get them.

wpid-IMG-20130424-WA0054Recall my previous post dated 18th February 2013 with title 5th Ring Road is now Sheikh Zayed Road, I saw that they have already fixed the sign board. I still have difficulty imagining the congested 5th Ring Road as the same Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. Well, at least now we don’t have to spend money since Dubai’s most famous road is here, what say you?

Thanks [AlMubarkia]

ACK students are smashing that’s for sure! Last night, Smash Burger held an all you can eat in the shortest amount of time contest at the ACK campus in Mishref. I must say the enthusiasm was amazing and the competitors really know how to shove burgers down their throats!

The burgers were big, juicy, and looked tasty you could eat one or even 5 (which is what the contestants needed to eat to break the previous contest record of 4 burgers). Contestants had five minutes to break the previous record and the organizers provided bottles of water to help the participants get the burgers down.

The winners, one male, and one female, won free food for a whole year from Smash Burger. I think this was a good competition to get the students active but maybe next time, we can have a healthier competition? :) Take care ACK, nice smashing with you!

I’m sure you all read stories about thieves stealing cars or burglars ripping off shops or even banks every now and then but when 20,000 M-16s suddenly go missing, now this is something you don’t hear about everyday, do you? Apparently, the story that was published on the local papers I think last week about 20,000 U.S M-16s that gone missing (more likely stolen) from unguarded warehouse in Kuwait has became so viral that many popular U.S. based blogs, journals, and even TV channels are mocking it up.

I can’t blame them though, I mean how can such a thing ever happen? Ministry of Interior explains that the thieves have managed to break into the unguarded warehouse and steal a huge amount of firearms and ammunition, oh yeah! Logically speaking, how is it possible for a bunch of thieves to carry 20,000 heavy U.S M-16s in merely a few hours? and where were the guards for god’s sake! Though I’ve to admit this makes a great story for a blockbuster movie.

Update: I was told criminals were captured, but hopefully they were able to retrieve all the stolen weapons.

beach_in_kuwait

As the waves danced along the shore, I lay back against my beach chair and took it all in. The air was warm, and the beams of sunlight were glowing against my skin. I closed my eyes and heard the laughter of small children running about, the barking of dogs in the distance, and the scraping of a jogger’s sneakers on the gravel track. I took a deep breathe; summer is finally here and I am going to enjoy every second of it.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! I jumped up from my chair and ran to the group of people gathered on the shore. There he was, his lifeless body washed up against the white sand, blood spilling from his head… He died, instantly.

Summer season is here and the jet skis have come out. What people seem to misunderstand is that although jet skis can provide hours of fun, they can be extremely dangerous in the hands of a negligent, inexperienced, or intoxicated driver. Jet skis provide the same type of thrill as riding a motorcycle. This may be because jet skis borrow much of their technology from motorcycles. Jet skis come with powerful engines that range in size from 550cc to 1200cc. Interestingly, many companies known for making motorcycles also make jet skis. In fact, the original manufacturer of the Jet Ski back in the 1970′s was Kawasaki. Nowadays, a number of other manufacturers, including Honda, compete for this growing market.

Despite the fun of jet skiing, the basic design of all personal watercraft has been criticized, including jet skis, because, personal watercraft have no braking mechanisms. They coast to a stop, and while coasting, there is no turning ability.

Most experts concur that jet skis present special hazards because they will not steer when you let go of the throttle. This presents inexperienced jet skiers with an unexpected loss of control when something unforeseen happens. Unlike traditional boats, jet skis are rudderless. When the throttle is off, a speeding jet ski has been compared to a car sliding on ice because it can’t stop or turn, and the driver has virtually no control.

Many safety experts also believe that, contrary to industry claims, the vehicles themselves, not just the riders, cause numerous injuries and fatalities. These critics believe that the design of jet skis makes them a menace, not only to their own riders, but to swimmers, kayakers, boaters, and anyone else who shares the water in good faith.

Because of their speed and lack of protection in the case of an accident or collision, jet skis present many of the same hazards as motorcycles. Both Jet Ski and motorcycle accidents result in a significant number of fatalities a year.

Both types of vehicle are often enjoyed by thrill seekers and operated at high speeds. This thrill factor, combined with the absence of any protection in case of a collision or loss of control, means that jet ski accident victims are also more likely to suffer serious injury and death.

If you enjoy the thrill and adrenaline rush provided by driving a jet ski, keep these statistics in mind when you go on your next ride. And be sure to use necessary safety precautions for yourself and your passengers. Please, please keep our beaches clean, safe and rowdy-less!
