I remember seeing Touristic Enterprises Company (TEC) announcement regarding the closure of Kuwait Towers for comprehensive maintenance including check-up for fire alarm system and beautification works back in May, I was surfing for new videos on YouTube and saw this animation for Kuwait Towers seemingly showing the final result of the revamping works, though I’m not sure when it will be re-opened.
Having an aquarium for dolphins in Kuwait, how cool is that? I saw an interview with Mr. Mijbil Al Mutawa – Chariman of TKSC, speaking of new 40 Million KD expansion project for The Scientific Center which will include a dolphinarium and sea mammal centre as well as a bigger area for interactive exhibits, cool.
The Scientific Center remains to be one of my favorite touristic spots in Kuwait and with this addition it will be even more exciting. I’m not yet sure when the actual works will start but I’ll keep you updated.
Update: I received news that The Scientific Center has just signed the contract for the new expansion which will include dolphinarium. 4 April 2013
I was in Kuwait City early this morning and spotted a new Johnny Rockets branch opening soon in United Tower mall (the colorful building that they call it now KIPCO) which is located at road Khalid Bin Waleed intersection, I’m getting addicted nowadays to their new Wagyu Burgers and luckily they have launched a delivery hotline #1844144.
I also saw a number of restaurants and cafe’s opening at the same mall including;
Caribou Coffee
Bagel It: I’m not sure what it is but I heard it offers bagels for breakfast
22 years ago from today was the day of the Iraqi invasion for Kuwait, I still remember that sad black Thursday 2nd of August 1990, I was a child back then. We awoke in the morning with the Iraqi military copters hovering over Kuwait city and with the noise of distant clashes and shooting and smoke in the sky, we didn’t know what was happening until we heard it on the news.
Last year I visited “Not To Forget Museum” that recreates the horror of the Iraqi invasion through a guided tour with special lighting, sounds effects and narration.
Today I visited Qurain Martyrs Museum, it’s a house where the final massacre between Kuwaiti resistance and Iraqi invaders took place, that was on the 24th of February 1990 (just before the liberation of Kuwait). I found a video for Kuwaiti resistance battling Iraqi invaders.
While walking inside the house, I could almost feel what happened seeing the damaged walls and broken windows, truly sad but it represents a historical monument. I recommend visiting the house in case you didn’t, there’s a lot to see and learn.
Address: Qurain, block 4, street 3, house 59.
Opening Hours: All week from 9 AM till 12 PM the from 4:30 PM till 7:30 PM
I had an entertaining visit yesterday afternoon to the awaited Jumeirah Beach Hotel & SPA, it’s better known as Messilah-Beach Hotel which is located by Fahaheel express way next to the Messilah beach resort. I arrived at the main entrance at 4:00 pm where I met with people from their sales department that took me on a tour.
I have to say the extrerior look of the hotel did not give me the impression that it’s very luxurious on the inside, the architectural design was made by reowned Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM); same designers for Burj Khalifa and Al Hamra Tower.
I noticed the hotel was designed to look like a U-shape, they said this allows maximum number of rooms with sea view, since Kuwait municipality doesn’t allow tall buildings by the sea.
Inside there was a large reception with a nice lounge, the finishing was high quality with astonishing interior designs. The hotel covers a total area of 55,000 Sq. meter including a private beach, 307 rooms, 80 suites, 6 restaurants, two ballrooms, SPA, GYM, and more. On the back side there was 80 meter long private beach with 12 villas and children’s play area. Unfortunately I couldn’t see their rooms because it was getting late, but they gave me pictures for the rooms and other facilities.
I asked them about the opening date, they said probably by end of 2012. I find Jumeirah Messilah Beach a great addition to the 5-stars hotels in Kuwait, I’ll make sure to visit it when it opens, as for now enjoy the photos that I have struggled to take.

I always dreamed to fly high over Kuwait city and enjoy the view but I thought that its not allowed, plus there’re no touristic copters or sky dive in Kuwait. But guess what? Our friends from Kuwait Aviation Team has shared with us amazing photos that they took while flying a paramotor (powered paraglider) over Kuwait City at 10,500 feet (3,200 meter) high.
Good news is that they said anyone can enjoy flying over Kuwait with a special captain who will fly the paramotor so no special training or license needed, cool.
I asked how much? they said KD25 for 25 minutes flying. Sadly they said currently they only fly over Khairan because flying over Kuwait City is only allowed during specific times of the year. I’m defintely going to try it when Kuwait City tour is available!
Though I guess one must have a really brave heart to fully enjoy, so who’s in?
Do you recall my post about Al Manshar Mall to be demolished? A blog visitor has sent me a reply saying that Al Manshar Mall may probably be replaced with a new huge touristic project called, Khabary. I remember I first heard about Khabary project back in 2006 but works did not start back then and company had financial problems, but I overheard the project may kick-start again.
Khabary is a future city that will include buildings, covered pedestrian areas designed to lower outdoor temperature by 10 degrees, a big mall, 15,000 parking spaces with a monorail, cafe’s, 5 star hotel, entertainment facilities, hospital, and much more. Its too big for the location of Al Manshar Mall but I’ll contact the company on Sunday to get latest updates.
Its been almost a month since Hamra mall was opened. Last night I was there and I saw that a number of shops and restaurants and cafes that were just opened:
Yoforia frozen yogurt
Häagen-Dazs
Adidas
Espressamente iIly (First time cafe in Kuwait)
Le Relais de L’Entrecote (The biggest one in Kuwait)
Behbehani luxury store
Aljazeera perfumes
Atyab Al Marshood
Shoe Box New York
Eden Park
Hoss Intropia dresses
Kalista jewelry
Wolford fashion
Manoush
Bottega Veneta
In addition to above many others will open soon, can’t wait.
