I read on Al Qabas paper today that Kuwait is about to ban fast food restaurants from serving soft-drinks to kids, they say the ban will start in a few days. Their reasoning is that studies found that soft drinks can be very detrimental to health of young individuals. I also should control my soft-drinks consumption, especially diet Cola and Pepsi.
This could be usful but I think it’s impractical, what do you think?
There are three abundant things in Kuwait; food, exhibitions, and blogs. Though 90% of the expos are either food or fashion related, but the good news is that this is about to change, I heard that they will organize the first health, fitness, and weight loss expo in Kuwait, finally! As I understood the expo will have health clubs, fitness machines and equipment, diet food companies, sportswear dealers, even Dasman Diabetes Institute will be participating.
There will also be sport shows, championships, and workshops such as Mixed Martial Arts, Parkour, Aerobics sessions, Yogo, Nutrition tips, Tae Kwon do. I’ll try my best to visit this expo and provide coverage for our readers, I’d like to see more similar expos in Kuwait.
I always see vehicles emitting large amount of polluting gases and fumes in Kuwait streets yet they are never impounded! How come such vehicles that clearly have problems in their engines are allowed to pass the technical inspection when renewing registration? They make our suffering environment condition even worse.
I read in AlQabas paper that Ministry of Health will start giving free insulin pumps for diabetic kids with Type 1 Diabetes, the pumps will be distributed over Kuwait polyclinics very soon. I’m happy with this news, poor kids with diabetes need 1,500 injections per year (that’s about 5 injections a day) plus injections can sometimes be painful. Another sad fact is that 90% of kids with diabetes in Kuwait are living without insulin pumps.
I applaud this humane decision, I’ll follow up and let you know when the insulin pumps are available. There’s also an ongoing donation campaign to provide kids with pumps here
I received news that starting tomorrow (Thursday) Kuwait government will place warning labels on cigarette packages with photos of body parts afflicted by smoking related diseases to cover 50% of the packs. I recall this suggestion was made in September last year, I’m glad they will finally apply it.
The same was done in Europe and in the U.S, hopefully it will help increasing awareness and reduce smoking temptation.
