I was checking out the new products unvelied by Apple in their event yesterday, and I tried to summarize the event as follow;

iPad Mini: There was a lot of buzz about it for sometime, it’s basically a smaller version of iPad with 7.9″ screen, A5 processor, 1,024 x 768 display, and optional LTE. Price is $329 (KD95) for 16GB and $659 (KD185) for 64GB. Shipping will start in a few weeks.

13″ MacBook Pro: It’s a smaller version of the 15″ MacBook pro laptop and I think apple released it to compete with Samsung Series 9, specs are 13″ Retina display,  2,560 x 1,600 resolution, 2.5GHz i5 or i7 processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of flash memory, and HDMI output. I like about it that it’s only 1.9 cm thick and weighs 1.9 kg, battery lasts for 7 hrs and starting price $1,699 (KD475).

iPad 4: I didn’t see this one coming but Apple has rush to inroduce the 4th generation, maybe to compete with Microsoft Surface? Specs are A6x quad core processor, 720p HD camera, WiFi or LTE models, and comes in white or black. Price is $499 (KD145) 16GB, and $629 (KD177) 32GB and release date 2nd November.

iMac: This is what I liked, the new generation of iMac desktop looks funky (see below), also 80% slimmer than previous generation. Specs; Core i5 and Core i7 processors, 21.5″ 1080p model or 27″ with 2,560 x 1,400 model (That’s higher reolution than HD TV), NVIDIA GeForce 600 graphics card up to 32GB RAM, 768GB SSD or 3TB traditional HDD. Price starts at $1,299 (KD370).

Do you prefer going to cinema or having your own home cinema? Personally I still prefer watching latest movies in cinema, but many of my friends disagree with me and they stopped going to cinema years ago, their explanation is that Kuwait cinema ruins their movies experiences with the strict censorship, also some of the customers scream and talk in the movie which is also annoying, and finally they say they can’t always find good seats.

Yesterday myself and El Toro were at X-Cite in the Avenues, I saw they started building Home Cinema theaters, so I asked their staff if they could explain the main features. Their new customized Home Cinema resembles Cinescape VIP theater, the seats can be automatically adjusted, HD projector and 150-inch screen, the most important element (speakers) were 9.2 from British brand B&W which are hidden in the acoustic-designed walls, I mean having 9 speakers surrounding me is new, last time I checked it was DTS 6.1 and THX 7.1 , I don’t know where they will go with this?

My brother just got his solar charging backpack of brand Infinit, that he ordered for KD50 and gave me to review since he knows how much I like green energy. The idea is simple and smart, backpack has a solar panel and 2200mAH hidden battery and 8 sockets to recharge different devices. It produces 2.4W which is enough say for iPhone, iPad, Samsung Galaxy S, MP3 players, GPS, pocket gaming consoles… etc.

The backpack felt light, I think about 1.5KG and it can fit 15″ laptop, there’s also a dedicated iPod and iPhone sockets. The nylon material seemed of good quality, I find this backpack excellent for road trips, travelling, gym, school or college. The downside here is clearly the price, if you like it you can get it from Amazon or this website

I went over to Samsung dealer in Kuwait and found that the world’s thinnest laptop, Samsung Series 9, has just arrived to their showroom for KD480, I was waiting for this laptop for sometime now. Literally I could carry it with one hand since it only weighs about 1.3 KGs, the dimensions are 14.0″ x 9.3″ and thickness is 12.9 mm (that’s so slim).

It’s not just slim but also fast (booting takes 9.8 seconds only) because it uses Intel i7 1.9/2.4 Ghz processor, and has 4GB Ram fixed. The hard drive capacity is 256 GB SSD (Solid State Drive) which is faster and quieter than the traditional HDD (Hard Disk Drives). The screen size is 13.3 inch and can produce 1600 x 900 resolution, the keyboard backlight also looked cool and there are fast USB 3.0 ports. The downsides that it doesn’t inlcude Blu-Ray drive and I wish if they had the 8GB ram version, I’m considering to get one to use it for travelling and my office works.

So now MacBook Air or Samsung Series 9?

I was looking for a mini DJ Mixer for music and songs, and I found this really tiny and very light DJ Mixer that fits in your pocket called Pokket Mixer for KD35 at Eureka in Salmiya, they said it just arrived. It can be connected to iPod, iPhone, Samsung Galaxy SIII or any music source and you can output the your remixed music on any speakers.

I find it ideal for parties or simply to re-mix your favorite songs for say the gym or beach walk.
