I posted about this before but I found a new published statistic for world hottest cities, the temperatures were recorded during mid of July 2012 and guess who came as number one? Kuwait City with 51 degrees Celsius recorded temperature! In second place came Baghdad followed by Riyadh. The statistic did not included abandoned places or remote areas such as deserts.

Kuwait indeed is a very hot place in the summer, a 5-minutes walk in the noon can make you sweat like crazy.

I read this interesting study conducted for large sample of Kuwaiti citizens and published by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) today stating that most Kuwaitis nowadays prefer social networking tools such as WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook… etc. to exchange Ramadan greetings over the traditional visits and in-person greetings, their reasoning is that most people live away from each other and life got busy. Frankly, I rarely visit friends to greet them for Ramadan or other occasions, in most cases I send and receive messages.

This shows how times have changed and how modern technology have affected our traditions and social mores. Do you think its fine to use messages for Remadan/Eid greetings or its better the traditional way?

I was glad to see that Traffic Department has provided the pedestrians with road crossing for Kuwait streets but sadly I’m seeing many reckless drivers still pay no attention at all to red traffic lights at road crossings. Police should punish those who don’t stop at road crossings otherwise they are totally useless!

What you are seeing above is not snow like in Europe, its the smooth silky sand from the dust that accumulates on Kuwait highways. Yesterday bulldozers from Ministry of Public Works (MPW) were removing sand dunes from the highways nearby Ahmedi as they can be seriously dangerous and cause fatal accidents if left un-removed.

What in your opinion is good solution for such problem caused by dust?

I posted about this several times before but according to a new study regarding obesity in the world, Kuwait scored the 2nd place as the heaviest nation after the U.S. Apparently, the study used World Health Organization data and applied BMI (body mass index) to calculate the fatness percentage for adults.

Again I’m not surprised, Kuwait is over-loaded with restaurants that keep popping up everyday everywhere, I even read that number of restaurants in Kuwait has reached 4783 so far; there’s a restaurant for every 230 people.

On the bright side, number of health clubs is also increasing because there’s a growing awareness toward health and fitness.

Isn’t it interesting how Kuwait city combines very developed structures (such as Al Hamra Tower) alongside totally neglected buildings? I wish Kuwait Municipality set certain standards so that owners of those old neglected buildings put some effort to renew/renovate them to look modern.

A week ago I conducted a quick survery for the most desired summer vacation destinations for this year, and now I bring you the results which I think are very interesting and can tell a lot.

The total votes were 284 and the results were:

Europe (70 votes): The majority of travelers (25%) will be flying to Europe this summer, I think its because people are escaping Kuwait’s burning sun and dusty weather to European countries where weather is amazing and temperatures never exceed 35 degrees.

Not Traveling (56 votes): This is quiet surprising, 20% percent of people will not travel this year and don’t mind the hot summer and frequent dusty days. I think its because Ramadan is coming by mid of summer, otherwise it could be financial reasons.

America (47 votes): It came as the 2nd favored destination (16%) after Europe. I personally wish to visit the the U.S or Canada this year, I also heard great stuff about Cancun in Mexico

GCC Countries (27 votes): 9% of people will be enjoying their summer in GCC countries, the advantage is the short traveling hours plus the lower needed budget, GCC countries do have amazing places to visit.

Arabian Countries (20 votes): I kinda expected that, only about 7% will travel to Arabian countries even though it should have been much higher but I think its because of the political situation in several Arabian countries.

India (19 votes): I think of India as the un-discovered or secret vacation destination, many people are still not-familiar with tourism in India even though there are million of things to enjoy there, its a subcontinent after all.

Other Destinations (18 votes): Maybe some Islands or destinations (7%).

Australia (5 votes): It came as last, I think mainly because its so far far away, I never went to Australia and I really love to.

I got shocked when I saw the latest picture taken for Jaber International Stadium, it shows improper leveled court with no grass and it looks rather deserted. Now I can tell why Real Madrid rejected to play at Jaber International Stadium even though I overheard that government spent over 80 Million Dinars for the construction only to find out later that there are many mistakes in the project.

I read on the papers couple months back that an expert said even used grass is for gardens, the stadium is now closed and will not open before December 2012.

I read on the paper that Ministry of Health will soon replace the finger print system with new eye iris scanner system for work attendance, their reasoning is that eye iris scanner cannot be cheated unlike the older finger print system and this will force punctuality, I suspect the other ministries will do the same later.

I think they’re are going way too far with this since eye iris scanner is mainly used for security purposes and not for attendance, an employee can spend full 8 hours at work with zero productivity.

I read on Al Rai paper about some employees at Ministry of Social Affairs coming to work wearing shorts and t-shirts, I thought all work places in Kuwait force dress code where employees can only wear either Dishdasha or a suit. Sounds more like a mall than a workplace, unprofessional.
