A friend of mine advised me to go for Nitrogen to inflate my tires instead of using normal air; his explanation was that summer is very hot in Kuwait with temperature exceeding 50 degrees celsius and tires need maximum protection especially that we see many tires blowout on the highways.

He also says nitrogen is used for aircraft and race cars tires and it helps preventing tire blowouts, thats good to know.

So I headed to Shuwaikh to find a garage that has Nitrogen and found it at Auto 1, I think its also available at Bridgestone and other big garages. I asked how much and they said 1KD for each tire (that’s 4KD), they started deflating my tires and replacing the normal air with pure nitrogen, whole thing took about 15 minutes.

Some of the benefits for using nitrogen:

-Tires will last longer and have less failures.

-Nitrogen is less heated and is less effected by pressure so more stable driving.

-Increase fuel efficiency because tires remain properly inflated.

-Reduces corrosion for wheels.

1kd per tire? now thats one costly inflation ;p

WOWm that’s the first time I hear of such a THING.
NITROGEN !!! really weird but I’m afraid it’s not what they say it is, what if it was dangerous ?

hehe I had the same reaction at first but when I learned more I got convinced, air consists approx. 70% of Nitrogen and using pure Nitrogen for tires have these following benefits:

-Tires will last longer and have less failures.
-Nitrogen is less heated and is less effected by pressure so more stable driving.
-Increase fuel efficiency because tires remain properly inflated.
      -Reduces corrosion for wheels.

Nitrogen is used for aircraft and race cars tires because it helps preventing tire blowouts, but the problem is that its expensive (1KD/tire).

Can you really feel a difference when driving?

  4. Nitrogen is also lighter, that is it will result in reducing the Un-Sprung mass weight of the car.

I also doubt that you will feel the difference, as its mainly used for racing cars.
