I went to see the new generation of Porsche Boxter S 2013 that just arrived to Porsche Center in Al Rai. I didn’t like the old Porsche Boxter which was first introduced in 1996; neither design nor engine performance were cool back then, but I see alot of improvements were made to the exterior body and interior of the new generation, the vibrant red color looked hot.
From what I understood the body is now lighter and performance was improved, also the wheelbase and track have grown for better stability. I’m liking the seven-speed PDK transmissions which should produce smoother power delivery. As for the engine it produces 315 HP and accelerates from 0-100 KM in 4.8-5.1 secs which could have been even more impressive. The convertible red top looked cool but why didn’t they use hardtop like Mercedes-Benz?
They said the retail price is KD17,500 and the fitted options worth KD4,520, so total price KD22,000

I love the new Boxster; the redesign makes the old one look very plain and uninspired in comparison. This one looks almost exotic – the darkened headlights, sculpted doors and side intakes and the spoiler being integrated with the taillight indicators are fantastic details. One bone I wanted to pick, though: 4.8 seconds to 100 is not that impressive? The base 911 Carrera pulls off the same time, which is hardly shabby.
They didn’t go with a hardtop because the metal structures and panels add far more weight, take up more space when they fold back and take longer to open up and close [the current top opens and closes in just over 9 seconds]. If the Boxster had a folding hardtop, there wouldn’t be a trunk in the rear [it also has one in the front].
If you want a tin-tip Boxster, there’s always the new Cayman which will be unveiled this November…
Really, isn’t have new generation of Cayman way too soon? I think it came out in 2006?
Automakers launch a new vehicle generation every seven years on average with a cosmetic/mechanical facelift halfway through. Come the end of this year, the Cayman will have completed its full lifecycle of seven years [it was updated in 2009] and will be due a replacement. Besides, it’s currently the oldest vehicle in the current Porsche model lineup and still hasn’t integrated the company’s latest design.
Just imagine the new Boxster with a hardtop, larger glass window in the rear than the current Cayman, a slightly modified front and you’ve got it. It’ll still be a beast to drive; if only Porsche didn’t hold its potential back.
Agree with you in why they arent using the hard-top
Alot of people in Kuwait under estimate the Boxster and call it a “cheap” Porsche. I dont agree. The boxster has a perfect mid engine which is a perfect setup for a drivers car. The car also drives amazingly and has a beautiful design.
we should only compare it with its competitors such as Z4, TT and SLK as they are all roadsters.
In past models the 911 carrera are usually better and faster than the boxter. But in this model the difference in handling has been reduced. And the design is alot better than previos models.
Yes performance was much improved in new Boxter.

A comparison between a new carrera and a boxsterS? are you kidding me
The 911 is the flagship car of porsche!
0-60 in 4.5 secs and if fitted with sport and sport plus it is reduced to 4.2 secs!
911 will always be better but for this generation you gotta admit it has improved
The 911 may be Porsche’s flagship and an automotive icon, but there’s no denying that the Boxster/Cayman put up one Hell of a fight. They may be more powerful and faster off the line but dynamically speaking [and drivers won't deny this], the mid-engined vehicles handle better than the rear-engined 911 because their weight is more ideally balanced. Some of my friends work for Porsche and part of their training for every new vehicle launch is to drive it on a race track. When the new 911 was introduced, the program lead was driving a manual Boxster S and had everyone try to keep up with him. Despite the newer, lighter and more powerful 911s, they would only get close before the Boxster smoked every single one of them.
If Porsche stuck the Carrera S’s engine in the Cayman, it could very easily outperform the 911. Now imagine if the 911 Turbo’s engine were in there: there wouldn’t be a need for the 911 except for the purists who would cry cold, bloody murder.
just read this, i guess you already covered it
Dude this is hot!
