I read on the paper that the 37th book fair will start this Wednesday at Kuwait International Fair, I’ve to admit that I don’t read books like before but I’m planning to pay the fair a visit. They say over 500 publishers (both Arabic & English) will be participating and that this year’s fair will have more entertaining activities for visitors. I hope the censorship isn’t strict like 2010 and 2011 fairs.
Where: Kuwait International Fair
When: 21th November to 1st December

hahahaa I used to go every year when I was little! It was the only place that was selling English stories ^_^
I am assuming there will be a thriving food court there. I don’t much care about the censorship issue as long as I find my pink berry.
LMAO
Am hoping there’s a dedicated section for English writings by Kuwaiti and Arab authors.
This promises to be one place where thankfully, the little monsters won’t be running amok. All in all a kiddies free zone unless schools in Kuwait suddenly decide books and reading might actually be good for kids.
My guess that there will be lots and lots of kids in the evening time so it’s best to visit the fair in the a.m
will it have English novels like the hunger games trilogy ??
Yes but last year there were not that many English books, I’ll try my best to visit the fair tomorrow and will let you know brother.
PASS, I won’t go to any of the book fairs in Kuwait until they get rid of the censorship committee that ruined the book fair by banning almost everything worth reading. (if any of you guys are interested in the history of the yearly book fair or the censorship committee, Sout Al Kuwait did a research/booklet about it a year ago, PDF link: http://soutalkuwait.com/booklets/censorshipbook-web.pdf )
for now: Amazon, Beirut, & Dubai FTW.
Sadly true, hoping to see a change for this year’s fair hmmm
I just so want to be on Kuwait censor board. This way I’ll get to read all books, see all films unedited and listen to all kinds of music no questions asked. By my reckoning, this is one of the best jobs to have in Kuwait right now. Imagine I can be part of an experience which none of you here can be part of since my job description will be to first partake of film, books and music and to then ban these if they are found remotely worthwhile watching, reading or listening to.
hahaha please give me a call when you get that job, I need a new job and this one seems just perfect
In an ideal situation the Kuwait censors board should not comprise anyone resident in Kuwait. What is the point exposing a Kuwait resident to the forbidden fruit: all that is not good for them? After all you cannot have your cake and eat it too. Instead they should outsource censoring as a comprehensive activity to the Emirates or Oman and leave it to them to decide if the content is Kuwait- worthy (whatever that’s supposed to mean) or not. LMAO!
last year I didn’t like it, neither the english nor the arabic books deserved the visit; the other point is that i find it strange that in a country where the french language is taught in the secondary school there is no french editors.
P.S: the last book of Ahlem Mostaghanmi “The Black Suits You” (the original title in arabic: الاسود يليق بك)faced a huge success in the arab world especially during the UAE book fair where the author was invited; i’ll look for it tomorrow
well this is an arabic country ..translating books is a field were you can work !
reading novels is not like reading real books!
there are good books but you don’t know were to look ,its your problem !
censoring is not going to stop people from reading those books. nowadays anyone can buy from any online shore and get it into your country via courier
books like these i see every year !! some books need to be read not just by any one!
and some books are not there not because of what you think ,,but for other reasons !
