Can you ever imagine that Gergai’an would cost KD50,000? I know this sounds totally insane but I read on the paper that some families spend over KD50,000 on Gergai’an. What they do is that they make a party and buffet in luxurious 5-star hotel ballroom and bring famous singers, and pick the most expensive chocolates for the Gergai’an which cost as high as KD500 for one basket. I’m seeing that the way people celebrate Gergai’an occasion has drastically changed in Kuwait these days especially with regards to spending. I remember in the past we used to walk around the streets to visit several houses, some of us dressed in weird looking clothes. Some of the boys carried drums or even tin containers and at each house, boys and girls sing a special song for the owners of the house. Once they have done that, they are rewarded by sweets and sometimes even money.
