Ever wondered how long it takes to burn a typical fast meal? Myself and a friend did a kinda funny yet useful little experiment, my friend (test subject] ordered KFC Zinger Supreme meal along with french fries and regular coke. Typically KFC Zinger Supreme has about 685 Calories,  Coke 200 Calories, and french fries 300 (so total is 1185 Calories).

We used Nike Fuel Band to measure calories before consuming the meal (His meal not mine) and after. The reading before was 257 calories and after finishing “finger lickin’ good” we got these results:

5 minutes later: 262 Calories burned

15 minutes later: 292 Calories burned

30 minutes later: 378 Calories burned

1 hour later: 480 Calories burned

2 hours later: 657 Calories burned

After two hours of regular activity the total burned Calories were 400 out of 1185, so I guess it would take him another 5 to 6 hours to burn the whole meal, unless of course he hits the gym or simply start running.

Note: All numbers above are approximate, burning process differs from one person to another, also increases with more activity.

the nike fuel band is not accurate. its a nicely dressed pedometer. the most accurate equipment of this nature for the regular consumer is the bodymedia stuff. EVen that has a margin of error.

Nike fuel band = pedometer. your phone can do the same thing.

    good day

I find it a bit hard to digest you’re your info (no pun intended :P ). If it were true then I wouldn’t mind eating KFC every single day because I go to the gym 5 days a week and almost every single day I would jog for 30 – 40 min. I would burn much more than 600 cal. I agree with the other users, the Nike pedometer is not 100%.

It’s alright I meant it to be funny and to create more awareness, all the numbers are approximate and Nike Fuel Band isn’t accurate indeed :) But think about it, 8 hours needed to burn a single meal (sandwich + fries + medium coke), that’s 1/3 of a day, add to this that there are other two major meals plus the in between meals, and we usually sleep around 6-7, so without exercising/working out, the person this routine will end up getting XXXL sizes ;)

Nike Feul Band is a REALLY bad calculator of calories..i am a huge nike fan but truth be told, the NFB is crap…junk food is not only high in calories, it has so many detrimental effects on the body:
    - increases fatigue,
    - slows down metabolism,
    - causes insulin spikes (and sudden drops) leading to diabetes,
    - it is not properly digested by the digestive system,
    - high in sodium which could lead to kidney disease,
    - causes poor cognitive performance,
    - high trans fat percentage leading to heart and liver damage.

After stopping junk food for almost two years i had one burger from burger king..i could not finish it and i got physically sick…you all should boycott junk food..ur lives are too valuable

by the way, NO ONE in the world can burn 262 calories in 5 minutes…it is IMPOSSIBLE…not even 150 calories..that just shows you how skewed the numbers given by Feul Band are

  9. Nixon says:

Amazing experiment, i would really like it if you do it again with more test subjects and a more accurate device to measure calories burned.

  10. Great info. I love all the posts, I really enjoyed
