We made a visit to the “Side Kick Academy” where you could learn about various self-defensing techniques & arts such as Jiu-Jitsu, Modern Tae Kwon Do, Mixed Martial Arts & others. The academy is located at Shuweikh just beside Al-Telal complex.

I must say I liked what I saw, the reception was welcoming, the working staff & trainers were friendly. They also arrange exquisite events & bring global trainers to give special seminars , this time they brought the Jiu-Jitsu legend & UFC champion Royce Gracie all the way from Brazil for a 3 days seminar (13th ,14th & 15th). I mean they made my dream come true to meet this Man & see how exercise in live :)

The Sidekick’s program teaches real world self-defense, yet more importantly they teach the trainees when & where these newfound skills should be used.

I also liked how they have special defensive programs for girls & kids, very important if you ask me.

They also offer private lessons for those who have tight schedules & not able to attend the training as per the schedule. The Adult program costs 70 K.D per month, Women & kids programs both costs 45 K.D per month.

For some reason I thought Royce Gracie is very anti-social, but after meeting in person & having a little chit chat I changed my mind, the guy’s really friendly & have sense of humor :S

They will be bringing another global trainer soon, so don’t miss out :p

Lool I agree partially, Jiu Jitsu is very serious self defending art, & its 2-edged sword. But like I said kids & girls do need to learn such techniques for particular situations :)

  3. I really wanted to go to this but I was sick and felt ‘shy’ to go alone. I’m glad you were able to go and it looks like a lot of fun. My Father is a Black Belt x 2. When I get married and have children I would definitely put them in a martial arts program.

Ohh sorry for that you could have told me & we could have met over there & enjoyed the Jiu Jitsu show :) I see you have made a full training plan for your future kids, how cute :)
